Russell Village
Russell is located in the heart of the Bay of Islands, on a small peninsula surrounded by pohutukawa-fringed bays, sandy beaches and tranquil waters. Russell provides a central base for touring the Bay of Islands and Northland. The township has a peaceful, romantic atmosphere with a good range of services, including restaurants, cafes and local crafts. All Bay of Islands tours and cruises, sailing and big-game fishing charters depart the Russell Wharf, as well as regular passenger ferries to Paihia.
Russell can be reached by road using the regular 5-minute car ferry from Opua (please note that they take cash payments only, last ferry 10pm) or via the spectacular East Coast scenery of Helena Bay and beyond on the “Old Russell Road”.
