Russell Village
Russell is located in the heart of the Bay of Islands, on a small peninsula surrounded by pohutukawa-fringed bays, sandy beaches and tranquil waters. Russell provides a central base for touring the Bay of Islands and Northland. The township has a peaceful, romantic atmosphere with a good range of services, including restaurants, cafes and local crafts. All Bay of Islands tours and cruises, sailing and big-game fishing charters depart the Russell Wharf, as well as regular passenger ferries to Paihia.
Russell can be reached by road using the regular 5-minute car ferry from Opua (please note that they take cash payments only) or via the spectacular East Coast scenery of Helena Bay and beyond on the “Old Russell Road”.
