Directions
Russell is located in the heart of the Bay of Islands, on a small peninsula surrounded by pohutukawa-fringed bays, sandy beaches and tranquil waters. Russell provides a central base for touring the Bay of Islands and Northland. Russell can be reached by road via a regular Vehicle Ferry service from Opua to Okiato operating until 10pm daily. Russell is only a 8km drive from Okiato (this is the preferred route). Please note that the ferry takes cash payments only.
PLEASE NOTE: Ferry ride is approximately 10 mins, wait time varies as service is a shuttle service and dependant on whether there are 1 or 2 ferries operating at the time.
From South/SH 1
Continue north on SH 11 towards to Opua and the Russell Vehicle Ferry. Turn right towards Opua, down the hill and around the corner to the left for the Russell Vehicle Ferry. Ferries depart approximately every 5 minutes (please note that the ferry takes cash payments only). Once you reach the other side follow the main road into Russell. Drive straight through the village along York Street. Turn right onto Long Beach Road then left into James Street. Russell Top 10 Holiday Park is on the corner of Long Beach Road and James Street.
From North or West/SH 10 or SH 12
Follow the signs to Paihia via Puketona Junction. Turn at Puketona Junction and follow the road until you reach the sea. Turn right and drive through Paihia then over the hill on SH 11 towards to Opua and the Russell Vehicle Ferry. Turn left at Opua and drive down the hill to the Russell Vehicle Ferry. Ferries depart approximately every 5 minutes (please note that the ferry takes cash payments only). Once you reach the other side follow the main road into Russell. Drive straight through the village along York Street. Turn right onto Long Beach Road then left into James Street. Russell Top 10 Holiday Park is on the corner of Long Beach Road and James Street.
